Sydney Harbour

../../photo/pcd1726/480.php

Maybe this page should be called “Sydney Harbour and Environs.” Most of the photos are taken from a harbour cruise, but a few are in the ‘Rocks’ and the Circular Quay.

On this page, you will find:
#opera the Sydney Opera House,
#water Scenes from the boat, and
#quay the Rocks and Circular Quay

Sydney Opera House

Here is one thing I loved immediately about Sydney: that its contribution to the world’s most recognizable landmarks is not a tower or an arch, not a green lady with a torch, not a pair of tall office buildings, but a beautiful and vibrant showcase of opera and the lively arts.

Unbelievably, the building is even more striking in person. The photo at left is nice because you can see the shape and texture of the tiles on the roof.

Scenes from the boat

Of course, the opera house isn’t Sydney’s only landmark! There will be plenty of bridge photos on the next page. Here, I’m trying to convey the flavo(u)r of the harbour cruise. There are many beautiful communities along the shore, and several lovely islands.

The Rocks and Circular Quay

The Rocks is an old and quaint neighborhood where I wish I could have spent more time. At left, we are on the Cumberland Walk, near the approach to the harbour bridge. Church buildings are visible, and between them, in the distance, you can clearly see the white sails of the Sydney Opera.

The Circular Quay is the depot for most of Sydney’s ferries and cruise boats.

I thoroughly enjoyed your pictures and reading your comments. We visited Sydney in July 2003 and I have to give a short talk about it so was using the internet for some background and came across your site. It has been quite useful for the odd comment! Thanks
